Common Water Heater Problems
From chilly water to bad smells, we offer hot water heater repairs for all your water heater issues.
No hot water
Your water heater has one job, so if it’s not heating your water it’s time to call a pro. Common causes of no hot water include thermostat and heating element issues, as well as broken circuit breakers in electric water heaters and pilot light or fuel light issues in gas water heaters.
Leaks
A leak in your water heater reduces efficiency and can cause water damage to your home. Rust and corrosion, loose fittings and connections, or external damage like bumping the tank can all cause it to spring a leak.
Discolored water
If you’ve noticed a rusty brown or red color in your water, you’re not alone — discolored water is a common problem with many older water heaters. Mineral deposits inside the tank can affect the color of your water, while a corroded tank or corroded anode rod can add a rusty color.
Bad smells
If your water heater becomes contaminated with bacteria, it can cause a foul smell when you run the water. Depending on the type of contaminant, these bacteria may also pose a health hazard, so it’s important to address the problem promptly.
If you notice a smell like rotten eggs around your water heater, there may be several causes. In some cases, sulfur-rich water causes this smell. While not harmful, it is unpleasant, and a water purifier can help remove the smell. However, if you have a gas water heater and smell rotten eggs, it could mean a gas leak from the fuel line. Gas leaks are harmful to health and pose a fire hazard, so it’s important to evacuate the area and call for emergency water heater repair.
Unusual noises
The most common cause of strange sounds in your water heater is a build-up of sediment and minerals that get in the way of water flow. Sediment can accumulate on the bottom of the tank or on the heating elements, causing your water heater to pop, knock, or rumble when you turn it on. Our team will clean the sediment and run a test to make sure all the problem minerals are out of the way.
